Introducing the Eyelash Basket Crochet Pattern: A Fun and Versatile Project
If you're looking for a crochet project that's both functional and fun, the Eyelash Basket Pattern is the perfect choice! This pattern creates a beautifully textured basket using spike stitches to form a delightful eyelash effect. Whether you’re using up your scrap yarn or experimenting with bold colour combinations, this pattern offers endless possibilities for customisation.

What You'll Need
This pattern is ideal for chunky or bulky yarn, or you can double up light worsted weight yarn (such as double knitting). I used Stylecraft Chunky yarn from Amazon - click here to get yours https://amzn.to/4iAqXFU
It’s a great way to use up those leftover scraps of yarn you’ve been collecting. For the example in the pattern, I used three colours, but the beauty of this basket is that you can use as many colours as you like—there are no limits!

Customising Your Basket
The Eyelash Basket is perfect for beginners who are comfortable with the magic circle technique. It’s a fantastic scrap yarn project that can be made in any size to suit your needs. Whether you want a small bowl for trinkets or a larger storage basket, the pattern is easily adjustable.

Possible Uses for Crochet Baskets
Crocheted baskets are a fantastic addition to any home, offering both style and practicality. Here are just a few ideas for how you can use your Eyelash Basket:
Storage for Small Items – Use it to store cosmetics, keys, or loose change by the door, or to tidy up your craft supplies.
Household Organisation – They make wonderful organisers for your kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, keeping everything neat and tidy.
Gift Basket – Fill it with treats or small gifts for a thoughtful present. You can even make a personalised basket for a friend or family member.
Home Décor – These baskets also look stunning as decorative pieces around the house, perfect for storing artificial plants, or even as a stylish catch-all for various items.
On the Go – You can create smaller versions for the car or carry one as a fashionable crochet handbag!

The Perfect Gift
Crochet baskets make wonderful handmade gifts for any occasion. They can be customised to match anyone’s taste—be it a cosy storage basket for a home office, a chic decor item for a living room, or a small, personalised basket filled with goodies for a birthday or holiday gift.
A Word on Skill Level
This pattern is suitable for advanced beginners who are familiar with the magic circle technique. Both US and UK crochet terms are provided to ensure that everyone can follow along with ease (click here for UK terms)
So, gather your yarn, grab your crochet hook, and get ready to create a beautiful, versatile basket that will add a personal touch to any room or make a thoughtful gift for someone special. Happy crocheting!
Materials (to make the exact size of basket I made)
Chunky (bulky) yarn (how much you use depends on how big you make your basket. Around 120g in total for this exact pattern)
5.5mm crochet hook - I love my Tulip Etimo one https://amzn.to/443M2VD (size up or down depending on your tension. The basket needs to have a firm fabric so if you’re a loose crocheter, size down to get the desired effect).
Darning needle
Stitch marker (or scrap of yarn to mark your place) Get your stitch markers here https://amzn.to/448EsJo
Scissors

Stitches (US terms) and techniques
Single crochet SC.
Increase INC 2SC in the same st.
Magic Circle MC (recommend wrapping the yarn twice around your fingers for a secure circle).
Back loops only BLO - work the stitches into the back (furthest away from you) loop.
Spike stitches – made using SC, the are worked either 1, 2 or 3 rounds below the current round.
Colour changes – make the final yarn over of the last stitch of the round in the new colour before a change is required
Do not join rounds. Work in a continuous spiral, marking the first st of the round with a stitch marker.
Use the invisible finish for the final fasten off of the project.
Notes
The basket can be made to any size as long as the amount of stitches you have when you’ve finished increasing is a multiple of 6. The instructions given in the pattern are for 72 sts (which is a multiple of 6) but you can make it bigger or smaller as desired by following the increase pattern.
