Quick and Easy: 'Granny' Style Easter Eggs Pattern

Are you looking for a quick and easy pattern for Easter that uses up your yarn scraps?!  Then look no further.  These Granny Square style Easter Eggs are absolutely ideal to be made into bunting, a garland or even to decorate your Easter cards.

They can be made with any type of yarn (just be consistent) and get a hook size to match what you’re using.  I using aran/worsted #4 for mine but they’d work just as well with DK/light worsted #3 or even chenille yarn!

I love getting to use up scraps with little projects; makes me feel like I’m making use of every last bit of yarn.

This pattern is for the larger of the 2 eggs and there is also a video tutorial, too.

For an ad-free version which includes detailed instructions for both the big and the small eggs, check out my Etsy or Ravelry shops.

This pattern uses both US crochet terms.

US term stitches:

Magic circle (MC) or you can ch4 and join;

Chain (ch)

Double crochet (dc)

Treble crochet (tr)

Slip stitch (sl st)

Yarn:  You need 3 colours (A,B,C).

Round 1: Using A, make a MC and ch3 (or ch4, join to the 1st ch, then ch3). The ch3 counts as a dc st here and throughout. Work 9dc into the circle.  Pull tight and join with a sl st. F.O.

Round 2: Using B, join to any space between the dcs from round 1 and ch3.  Work 2dcs into the same space.  Work 3dcs in each space around.  Join with a sl st. F.O.

Round 3: Using C, join to any space between the dc clusters from round 2 and ch3.  Work 2dcs into the same space.  Work 3dcs in each space until you reach the final space.  In this final space, work 9tr then sl st to the initial ch3 to join. F.O.

Round 4: Using A, join with a sl st to the top of any st.  Ch1.  *Work 1 sl st, ch1* in each st around the egg and join to the beginning sl st.  F.O.

Weave in ends.

You can make several and thread them onto string or ribbon for a garland ready for your mantlepiece!
