Spring Flowers all year round! FREE Daffodil Pattern!!

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

I don't know about you, but tulips and daffodils are some of my favourite flowers. As soon as I see them start to poke up through the soil in the garden, I know that the long, dark, cold days of winter are coming to an end and spring is on the way.

I love to have fresh flowers in the house (you can't beat it!) but daffodils are so short-lived and their beautiful yellow and orange colours soon start to wilt. So, I've come up with a really simple, quick crochet daffodil pattern so I can have bright, spring flowers all year round!

The pattern uses US terms but it's really easy to convert over to UK terms. Just google a conversion chart and you'll be on your way!

I used DK/Light worsted weight #3 cotton yarn to make them but you can use any type of yarn you want. Just make sure you have the corresponding hook. I used a 3.5mm hook (E) so I got a nice, tight, finish to my stitches so bear that in mind if you choose a different yarn. You need 2 contrasting colours in yellow/orange colours and for the stem, you need a length of dowel and some floristry tape.

The pattern is written out below. For more comprehensive instructions, including photos to demonstrate, click here to buy the pattern from my shop.

Work in a continuous spiral using a stitch a marker.

Trumpet:

Using orange, make a magic circle/ring and work 6sc into it.

R1: 1sc in each st in BL (back loops) only (6)

R2: *2sc in first st, 1 sc in next* around (9)

R3: 1sc in each st around (9)

R4: *2sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2sts* around (12)

R5: 1sc in each st around (12)

FO and sew in ends.

Petals (6 in total):

Using yellow, join to the front loops (FL) you didn't work in for R1 of the trumpet.

Ch7 then work down the ch starting from 2nd ch from hook: sc, dc, tr, tr, tr, tr then ss to the next FL. Repeat another 5 times around so you have 6 petals. FO and sew in ends.

Back of flower:

Work 6sc into a MC

2sc in each st (12)

FO.

Sew in tail from the MC then use the other tail end to attach the circle to the back of the flower. Leave a gap to insert the stem.

To finish, wrap a length of dowel in floristry tape and insert into the back of the flower where you left a gap. Secure by sewing in the tail end around the stem.

And there you have it!

A simple, quick daffodil pattern to brighten up anyone's day :)
